Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story movie was released, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and introducing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a glimpse into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
The preview shows the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a brand new toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why Woody is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a carnival and assisting prize toys find good homes.
Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge attached to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
