Wimbledon will follow the American and Aussie Opens in utilizing replay systems.
Replay systems will make its debut at The Championships for the 2025 edition.
Athletes will gain the ability to challenge specific rulings made by the official, mirroring the protocol already in use at both the American Grand Slam and the Aussie major.
This technology is slated for use on Centre Court and Court One throughout the tournament and on the other four featured courts when they are hosting singles matches.
This development comes just a season following the All England Club implemented ELC, which terminated the longstanding role of line officials.
Reviewable Decisions
Players will not be permitted to challenge the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but they can request the official to re-examine specific situations, such as:
- Whether a tennis ball has bounced twice.
- Whether a shot touched an opponent's racquet or body during play.
- Potential hindrance at the conclusion of a point.
Notably, there will be an unlimited number on the amount of reviews a player can ask for.
A Recent Example
A recent case occurred in a recent tournament last week, where Daniil Medvedev used the video challenge against his opponent.
The British player admitted it was a difficult call for the official, but believed his opponent had "used the regulations quite well."
The umpire viewed a video and ruled Draper was guilty of interference, awarding the rally to Medvedev.
Growing Trend
Video reviews are not exclusive to major tournaments. The system has been in use at the US Open since 2023 and the Australian Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is becoming more common on the women’s WTA Tour, and by next season the men's ATP Tour will have the system in place at every one of its tournaments.
Further Updates
Another change at Wimbledon 2025 involves the introduction of graphical cues on displays to support the audio calls from the ELC system.
This addresses instances where fans have sometimes been unsure if a shot was out or in.
Finally, with precisely 100 days to go until the beginning of the Championships, the AELTC have further announced an increase in daily attendance at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
